When starting out in business, you might wonder if a custom email address is necessary. Some would say absolutely, and I agree to an extent. But the real question is when should you get a custom email address? I recommend it for three specific reasons.

1. Streamlining Your Business Systems

Having separate custom email addresses can make running your business smoother. For example, many accounting software programs work best with a dedicated email address for financial tasks like processing invoices and bank reconciliation. You might have one for customer inquiries like info@ascendevergreen.com and another for accounts, such as accounts@ascendevergreen.com. This setup makes organising your emails and systems more efficient and allows you to focus on other areas of your business growth.

2. When More Than One Person Handles Client Communication

If there’s more than one person interacting with your clients, a custom email address is key. Not only does it look professional, but it also helps keep client communication clear and consistent. For example, John handles clients A, B, and C, while Lisa takes care of clients X, Y, and Z. Having john@ascendevergreen.com and lisa@ascendevergreen.com allows for better organisation and maintains a level of professionalism. But, if you’re the only one handling all communication, using a single email like ascendevergreen@gmail.com might be enough for now.

3. Does It Make Financial Sense?

Custom email addresses aren’t free. They come with costs like domain registration and an email client. Before jumping in, make sure your business is generating enough income to cover these expenses. If the extra cost isn’t justified by the workload or image you're trying to create, it may not be the right time.
